Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HOW UPSETTING to read Brian Weatherley's piece on the Burns report (CM 15 December). He suggests it will be pigeonholed and thus forgotten by government despite its laudable contents, and that it did not contain anything we did not already know anyway.

That's right. The report did restate the obvious, but this time on the basis of evidence not anecdote:That is why the government has decided to get back to discussions with the industry after walking away from us following the LRUC debacle.

We should welcome the task group. [FTA chief executive] Richard Turner and I will meet ministers to discuss the agenda I cannot say if these discussions will deliver a fuel rebate, but rather than give up we should continue to drive home our case.

If only it was as simple as getting customers to pay a fuel surcharge. Will that help those many hauliers identified in the inquiry who face daily competition from foreign operators fuelled with cheaper diesel? I think not. I hope CM can support us in seeking to remedy this unjustifiable anomaly.
