Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

truckstop battle

• Owners of a Cambridgeshire truckstop who fought a twoyear battle with the Department of Transport were back in court last week facing a new eviction order from their latest site.

Jenny and Peter Hawes moved to the Chapel Lane layby on the A47 outside Wisbech when the DOT decided to close their original site, Guyhirn layby, for safety reasons. The couple say that Chapel Lane was offered to them by the Department but this offer was later withdrawn.

Last week the Hawes, who have enlisted the help of their MP, appeared at Wisbech Crown Court to hear the first round of the dispute over the 20-seater cafe. They expect a full hearing within six months.

A spokeswoman for the DOT says the couple are to be evicted as they are occupying its land: pending the hearing she would not comment further.

Peter Hawes spent six months welded inside the mobile building to protest against the original decision in 1993; he was also shot at by a disgruntled neighbour.
