EASTERN LA Mr. W. P. S. Ormond made what he described as an exceptional grant of a B licence for one vehicle to R. G. D. Knights at an application heard in Norwich on Tuesday.

Originally Mr. Knights had applied for four tankers to carry spent chemicals, sludge, sewage and boiler scale within 50 miles and elsewhere under boiler and storage tank contracts. Objecting to the application was the Purle group of corn panies—Purle Bros. Ltd., Tovey Transport Ltd., Clearaway Ltd. and Mobile Clearance Ltd.

Although Mr. Knights produced a list of 23 prospective employers, he had only been able to secure the attendance of a representative of Norfolk Chemicals Ltd.

Mr. J. Bambridge, managing director of that company, told the LA that he employed Mr. Knights' services because he was always available and at a price far below that of any competitor. Although he did not know what the Purle companies currently charged, he expected that it was twice or even three times that of Mr. Knights. He anticipated being able to offer sufficient work to Mr. Knights to employ one of his tankers for three months a year
