MR. A, HALES, director of W. A. Bates, Ltd., Leicester, has retired. When he became a director in 1918, a position which he held when Dunlop took over the Bates organization in August, 1925, he had been, in turn, chief clerk, assistant sales manager, sales manager, and secretary' of the company. Until 1935 he was a Dunlop regional sales manager, first in the Midland region, then in the East
Midlands and in the West. He travelled widely on business missions, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, Malaya and Japan. When the Bates organization was revived in 1935, Mr. Hales again became a director. He has been connected with the trade for just on half a century.
LIEUT.-COLONEL W. HAMILTON, R.A.O.C., in civil life secretary and a director of Macrae and Dick, Ltd., the well-known Inverness transport concern, has been awarded the O.B.E. for gallantry and distinguished service. MaJoa R. P. F. DONALD, R.E.M.E., who has been mentioned in despatches for gallant and distinguished services in Italy, was on the staff of the same company before joining up four years ago.
1Mat. Wumaaat Lurnx has become managing director of Albany Savile Row Motors, Ltd., the office of which is at 3, Savile Row, London, W.I. He thus retains his interest in the commercial-vehicle and private car agency fields, as well as being a director of the Albany Club, which is situated at the same address. Encountering him the other day, we were asked in to view the premises. They comprise all the floors of a ifine old-mansion, embodying much of the beautiful oak panelling and some of the elaborate ceilings of the period, but, in other respects, modernized to constitute all that is best in harmony and comfort'. Many notable people in the worlds of art, letters and the motor industry are to be observed amongst its members. " Bill " Little makes an' excellent host, and he seems to thrive on all those problems, large and small, which confront those concerned with • clubland.
