Chesterfirld Offers Services.

The Chesterfield Watch Committee is prepared to put its new motor lireengine when delivered, at the disposal of neighbouring councils, and the Whittington U.D.C. has been considering the subject of en-operation. Terms are now under consideration. It goes without saying that we welcome this further example of steps to extend the valuable services of self-propelled lire equipment into sparsely-populated a yeas.

Dennis Sales and Demonstrations That Have Helped Them.

Tt will come as a surprise to many readers of this page to know that Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford, is averaging a delivery of one vehicle per week to tire brigades. This practice in itself is a tribute to the hold which the old-established Guildford company

has deservedly secured upon the fireengine world, and to-day •s position is the °weenie of sustained energetic business methods, dating back to the demonstration, at Wey bridge, in September, 1908. The Dennis Co. has not spared the expenditure of money, both for the purposes of getting its machines thoroughly right for firebrigade purposes and of bringing them effectually under the notice of fire masters kind chief officers, at home and out of the country. We are reminded, for example, of the display with a Dennis lire-engine with a turbine pump, at Spa, at the end of July last, when a large British contingent paid a visit tn the Fire Congress at Brussels. On that occasion, the Dennis engine eas temporarily manned by the Tunbridge brigade, under Chief-officer Bradley. aud we reproduced two illustrations. from photographs which were taken on that occasion. On this occasion, in competition with other makes. of machine, the Dennis engine delivered jets on to the burning building to great compavative advantage, and proved distinctly superior in the matter of heights.

Motor Fire-station for Cologne Suburbs.

The municipalities of Deutz and Kalk, under the. walls of Cologne, are spending a large sum of money on a motor fire-station, to be equipped with a gas-engine, escape-automobile, tender, steam-pump and an ambulancewagon. They and Coventry might note this-are determined to have !the. most up-to-date rolling stock and equipments money can secure. We understand that fully £10,000 will be absorbed by the station alone.
