Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

40% voluntary test fee hike

By Christopher Walton VOSA IS PROPOSING to increase its voluntary test fees in a move that would see some costs rise by as much as 40%.

Voluntary tests are available to operators to have vehicles checked for any faults which — if left uncorrected — may lead to a failure at annual test and an increase in Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) totals.

The tests include brakes, smoke, headlamp aim, speed limiter and a combined service for all four.

Currently. the multi-check costs £19.57 (it was previously £20 before VAT was cut temporarily to 15%), but under the proposals it would rise to £33 including VAT. A four-axle brake test would drop from £23.49 to £21, but a speed limiter test would increase to £20 from £9.79 and a headlamp aim test would increase from just £4.89 to £10. VOSA would continue to offer the tests at both its sites and also Designated Premises (DPs).

Anyone who wishes to give their views on the proposed changes, due to be implemented in May.
