Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The website has gone through the first stage of a major upgrade. TruckNet UK community manager Rikki Chequer explains how, what and why...

"APOLOGIES FOR no column last week, hut for months we have been looking at how to enhance the TruckNetUK website. The software that had served us so well since 2003 was beginning to stumble under the strain of visitor numbers.

One thing we were sure of was that the six years of content placed on the forums by the users should be moved to a new platform.

The user-generated content is the heart and soul of the site. It is a gold mine of facts, figures, first-hand knowledge, experience. memories, discussion, and so much more about our industry.

On 31 January we implemented the first stage of an upgrade to introduce extra features for our users. While a lot of planning and testing went into this before it was implemented, it is only when it went live and under full load that most of the hugs and glitches became apparent.

Fortunately, the upgrade created few problems, and we went live on the following Sunday with our new look. Forum users now have access to a hosted image gallery, while one of the more welcome features is a 'mouse over' that allows users to read a short preview of a topic without opening up a new page.

So why, when everyone in transport is reducing expenditure and investment, did RBI go ahead with this upgrade? The transport industry is in trouble — we all realise that — but one of the best weapons in a recession is information.

Social networking via the web is fast becoming the way to gain knowledge and work with others. It is cheap, quick and reliable, and the knowledge bank is vast.

TruckNetUK has always been at the vanguard of the transport industry and this upgrade to the site is part of RBI's commitment to supporting the industry through these troubled times.

'Mere is more to come and the rest of TruckNetUK will change. Working with Roadtransport.com, the new entrance page will show the latest news and popular forum topics, as well as providing links to outside sites that offer the best upto-date information. We will be adding content about trucks, routes, laws and more over the next few months. This is only the start, and we hope you'll join us on the journey..."
