EXCLUSIVE! MAN shows off its 430hp power plant MAN THIS WEEK unveiled its 10.5-litre 'next generation' Euro4/5 heavy truck engine range.

Weighing in at a modest 960kg, the compact MAN 132066 diesels will initially be offered inTGA chassis at ratings up to 430hp. But future outputs as high as 515hp are anticipated. For an engine of 10.5-litre capacity, exceptionally high torque levels are achieved — initially up to 2.1.00Nm — thanks mainly to MAN's pioneering use of the long-awaited second-generation Bosch commonrail fuel system, delivering injection pressures up to 1,600bar, Programmable preand maininjection events enable the new common-rail system. in combination with revised (fixed geometry) turbocharger controls, resulting in torque levels through the rev range which, in the existing MAN engine line-up, only the current 12.8 litre D2876 can match. Combined with SCR aftertreatment the same package is said to bring fuel economy benefits with the essential ability to meet Euro-4 and later Euro-5 emission limits.

MAN has followed Daf in using high-strength compacted graphite iron (CGI) for the D2066 cylinder block/crankcase casting for all four of the new engine's power ratings: 310,350,390 and 430hp. It gives the necessary strength to withstand the exceptional cylinder pressures needed to deliver such high torque levels. it also gives the engine added stiffness, helping to minimise noise and vibration.

A reduction in potential sealing problems is achieved by eliminating oil and water passages through the block-head interface.
