INTERFERING WITH a speed limiter and hours offences have cost a Dutch haulier £720 in fines and costs.

Coskub Arif Yukselener, of Eindhoven, pleaded guilty to exceeding the daily driving limit, taking insufficient daily rest and removing the fuse from his speed limiter.

Prosecuting for Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), John Heaton told Liverpool magistrates that in September a Scania artic loaded with flowers and driven by Yukselener was stopped in a check at Maghull.Yukselener had told a traffic examiner that he was a partner in the firm of Bolwerk Vervoer Service BV.

His tacho charts showed sustained speeds in excess of 90km/h. When it was found that the speed limiter was not working Yukselener admitted that the fuse was out and that he had removed it at the beginning of the we Asked why he had driven for 12hr 58min and ti• insufficient daily rest, Yukselener had replied he had to drop all the flowers before he had a br otherwise his firm faced a big compensation cl from its customers.

Yukselener was fined £650 with £70 costs.
