WHEN 64-year-old Richard Wilson escaped from a German prison-of-war camp in Poland in 1940 he was befriended by people in Poznan and was hidden in, among other places, a bakery. So by way of thanks 43 years on, he is sending half a ton of flour, 3,600 eggs and other ingredients to make a huge cake for distribution in Poland by Canon Bernard Szjejka. Clothing is being supplied, too.
Mercedes-Benz (UK) is lending a 508D van for the trip and the Olau Line is carrying it free from Britain to Holland. Generosity is infectious.
