Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN EEC scheme to establish a computerised railway freight control system in Europe may start in May on an experimental basis.

The system will keep track of the containers, piggyback lorries and all other freight carried by rail in the 10 EEC countries and Switzerland.

There are obvious benefits to everybody in the haulage business: it will be easier to trace lost containers and other loads which at present can take weeks to find. It will also be easier to find return loads so that containers do not make expensive empty journeys.

The computers may also be used eventually to prepare invoices, thereby cutting costs and time.

The scheme was initiated by the international railway organisation Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer and supported by the EEC Commission.

It is proposed that, as a start, the computers should link railway freight centres at Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Rome, Berne and Nottingham.
