• In an attempt to stamp out vandalism, Wigan Corporation transport department is to form a "special watch brigade".
A corps of men travelling as ordinary passengers will watch for people causing damage to any of the corporation's 134 buses.
A spokesman for the corporation said: "In the past six months vandalism on our buses has increased considerably. We have now put signs on all our buses stating that passengers may in future be under surveillance and if caught ca,using wilful damage will be prosecuted".
