• By the end of last year £11.11m had been paid in new bus grants, said Mr John Peyton, the Minister for Transport Industries, in the Commons, adding that he could not say how many vehicles were involved. Grant or approval in principle had been refused for 63 vehicles and for several non-standard designs of vehicle. The Minister said that there had been dispensations to allow new bus grants on 362 non-standard vehicles. The variations were related mostly to size because of operational difficulties.
