BECAUSE the capacity of road haulage is controlled by the Government, the number of goods vehicles in Holland rose by only 0.17 per cent. in the year ended August 1 last, but many
vehicles were replaced and the number of oilers rose from 3,348 to 4.343. Last year there were 82,355 lorries in the country.
The number of oil-engined buses rose from 3,161 to 3,403, whereas petrol buses declined from 3,022 to 2,892. Civil defence measures entailed an increase of from 897 to 1.543 in the number of fire engines, and the figure for refuse collectors rose from 1,067 to 1,215.
