THE wages council of the National I Joint Industrial Council for road passenger transport, representing municipal operators, is expected to meet next Wednesday to consider a new claim for a wage increase presented by the unions last week.

It was reported in The Commercial Motor on January 29 that the claim was for 3s. a week, but at least one municipal operator, Mr. J. Crawford. general manager at South Shields, has since expressed the belief that the unions would press for the rise to be brought into line with the 7s, 4d: awarded to craftsmen.

Municipal bus workers were awarded 4s. by arbitration in December.
