MR. T. A. EASON has been re-elected chairman of Mansfield sub-area of the Road Haulage Association. He and MR. W. T. Kemp are the delegates to the East Midland Area committee. Mr. Kemp recently received a presentation for his services as honorary secretary of the sub-area from 1938-51. He was partly responsible for the foundation of Midland Coal Haulage, Ltd., a company set up in 1947 to cope with the movement of deep-mined coal in bad weather in case of rail delays.

M. A. A. CROSS has succeeded MR. T. C. HALE as plant manager of the Barking factory of the Cape Asbestos Co., Ltd. He was recently appointed director (technical) of the concern and was previously plant manager at the Acre Mill factory. This post has been assumed by MR. A. E. HEPPER. MR. L. H. SMART has been appointed manager of a new plant at Stirling making Rocksil, a rock-wool insulation material for low and medium temperatures. His position as manager of the Kentmere plant has been taken over by MR. H. ELLIOTT. MR. G. MACBETH MENZIES has been appointed a director of the Scottish Motor Traction Co.: Ltd.

MR. F. T. Wu:ems:1s, vice-president of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Export Co., Ltd., has been awarded the French Legion of Honour in recognition of his work for the International Road Federation. He has been a director of the 1.R.F. since its inception in 1948 and is serving his third consecutive year as chairman.

Col. Arthur Jerrett has been succeeded as chairman of the National Council of the Traders Road Transport Association by MR. S. C. BOND. Col. Jerrett wished, because of increasing business pressure. to resign both the presidency and chairmanship, which he has held for nine years. He has, however, been persuaded to continue as president for the time being. Mr. Bond has been a national vice-chairman for some years and has been chairman of the East Midland Division since the formation of the Association. He is transport and shipping manager of the Stanton Ironworks Co., Ltd.
