Mr. W. H. Morris, of Oxford, has been rewarded for his enterprise by the completion of a satisfactory scheme of acquirement of his Daintier motorbuses with the National Electric Construction Co. He is thus relieved of an undertaking which, in the face of likely excessive competition, might not hays have proved a source of net rev en tie.

L.G.O.C. Dividend.

The .directors of the L.G.O.C., Ltd., have declared a dividend on the ordinary shares for the six months ended the 31st December, 1913, at the mate of £1,0 par cent., making, with the interim dividend of 18 per cent. paid for the first half of the year, a dividend for the year 1913 of 118 per cent., with 1175,000 placed to reserve, and £31,197 carried forwaid.

No Gamage-Bell Dividend.

Last Monday, the annual meeting of the Gamage-Bell Motor Cab Co., Ltd., took place. Mr. A. W. Claina.ge presided, and he stated that the company had xmide a profit and had been able to make a depreciation at the rate of 147 10s. per cab. Mr. George Murdoch complained that the company's ex

were too heavy, and that the employers had given way to the demands of the men too much. After certain heated discussion., Sir Charles Hamilton anif others complained that the item in the balance-sheet " Cash at bankers on deposit and in band 118,9(15 " was not sufficiently explicit. Mr. Horace Bell, the managing director, said that the item inclaled the sum of 117,00 On deposit with A. W. Gamage, Ltd., which paid 2 per cent, more than the hank would.

The receipts of the National Steam Car Co., Ltd., for the week ended 7th February, 1914, were £3957. This shows an increase of 1:1847 over the corresponding period of last-year.

The receipts of the Tramways (M.E.T.) Omnibus Co., Ltd., for the

week ended January, 191-1, were 17895, and for the Gearless Omnibus Co., Ltd., .E139. These show an increase of XIII and £.40 respectively as against he previous week.

The Tramways Committee of the South Shields Town Council is strongly urging the use of motorbuses to supplement the existing tramway undertaking. The Town Council has alsodecided to purchase a motor ambulance.

The Guildford Scheme.

Further' to our announcement of a week ago, we learn thatno .fewer than 25 motorbuses will be required to carry out the various services that. will be initiated from Guildford as a centre. It goes almost without saying, having regard to the association of the Dennis factory with Guildford, that Dennis vehicles will be bought, and we understand that the new company will be called Guildford Motor Services, Ltd.

Newport (Mon.) Chamber of Commerce is assisting in the collection of money to pay for a motor ambulance for local use.

The City of London Corporation has purchased four Laffiey motor

sweepers, at 1,2542. It is a pity that British makers have allowed the French to get ahead of them in this branch.

Fire-Brigade Matters.

The records of the London Fire Brigade, since it became increasingly dependent upon motor fire engines, have been extremely satisfactory in regard to reduced loss values. The v.alue of property damaged by fire has fallen asfol lows : 1911, £730,221 ; 1912,

£421,909; 1913, £339,080.

The Hornsea and Beverley Town Councils may combine in purchasing a motor fire-engine ; Cirencester U.D.C. has purchased a Merry-weather motor fire-engine, at £797 9s.; Haslingde.n U.D.C. is ordering amotor fire-engine ; the Ossett (Yorks.) Corporation is not having good luck with its Merryweather engine; Aberdeen Town Council has adjourned the question of purchasing a motor ambulance ; Coleraine U.D.C. has resolved to invite tenders for a motor " suitable for attachment to its existing apparatus; ". numerous Swansea ratepayers hope shortly to see the standing disgrace to the Watch Committee of the town" removed, and an up-to-date motor fire-engine purchased; Bromley Town Council will spend £760 -on a new fire-alarm system; Merton's new fire-station and depot is to coal. 12175.

Purchases and Tenders.

The Tredegar LT.D.C. has purchased a Fowler five-ton tractor at £447; Sheffield Corporation is about to purchase two Hallford lorries at £037 10s. each ; the Leeds City Council has placed a contract for the supply of motorbus tires, for two years, with Liga Tyres, Ltd. ; the Edinburgh order for single-deck motorbuses has gone to Leyland Motors, Ltd., for three at £804 each, and to W. A. Stevens, Ltd., for a like number, at £912 each ; the Marylebone Guardians may shortly purchase a motor ambulance ; Bradford Cc3poration will pay David Brown and Sons, Ltd., 28736 for the supply of 28

trackless-Car chassis ; Stretford U.D.C. is considering tenders from the Austin, Dennis arid Wolseley companies, for a motor ambulance ; the Lewisham Guardians havebeen re-commended to purchase a motor ambulance, and to give up horsehire ; the Cedes Electric Traction Co., Ltd., will install its system over three roads -at Hove.
