Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AFTER giving a six-months' trial to 50 Morris-Commercial oil-engined vans, the Post Office have decided to extend their use of oil-engined vehicles. In future deliveries of 240-cu.-ft., 361cu-ft. and 600-cu.-ft. vans there will be sizeable groups of oilers, which will be distributed to a large number of depots.

Next September information on theuoperation will be sought from the Union of Post Office Workers and regional directors, Then a final decision will taken on whether to switch to oilers.

In• an interim report, the Post Office say there is no doubt that oil engines offer substantial fuel economies over petrol engines. in 240-cu.-ft. vans there had been a saving of about 40 per cent:, and. the saving was 50 per cent. for 360-cu.-ft. vehicles.

" It is too early accurately to assess relative maintenance costs and it may. be 12 to 18 months before reliable comparisons may be made," says the report. However, oil-enginect vehicles appeared to be suitable for all the G.P.O.'s larger vans.
