Measures Adopted to Facilitate Installation, Care and Running of the New "Victory" Plant—an Inexpensive Producer -gas Outfit for Vehicles of 8 h.p.

to 25 h.p. SIMPLICITY is the keynote of the " Victory " gas-producer plant and of a fitting and instruction manual relating to it that has just been produced by the maker, Enness Sentinel, Ltd., Enness Works, Burlington Road, New Malden, Surrey.

This plant, which costs £65, is suitable for vans of from 8 h.p. to 25 h.p. It comprises a cross-draught dry-blast generator with water-cooled tuyere, a gas cooler, a filter, a tuyere-cooling radiator and a mixing valve.

These various units, excepting the last named, are compactly mounted in a frame designed for attachment to the rear of the vehicle. Together with the mixing valve, the apparatus as supplied includes the necessary controls and sundry fitments such as flanged pipe couplings and flexible cable. The capacity of the producer is 2 cwt. of anthracite or 1 cwt. of low-temperature coke.

It will be observed from the accompanying illustration of the Victory unit that the frame is positioned well above the base of the generator. Its height is actually 14 ins. The object is to secure rigidity and low centre of -gravity.

In order that spent fuel may be dis• charged away from the van, the ash door of the generator is placed so that it faces to the rear.

Filtration of the gas is effected by passing it through wads of sisal and an agglomeration of small porcelain cylinders. It is stated in the manual that the choice of filtering medium was the result of experiments upon 48 different materials.

In addition to the instructions given on fitting, maintaining, operating and fault finding, which are illustrated with a few simple sketches, there is included in the publication the names of four recommended fuels, namely, Proga, site, Motor Coalite, Sycobrite and Rexco, with a list of no fewer than 80 establishments in Great Britain where they may be obtained. This is certainly useful information..
