luck and van sales figures will emain depressed for the rest of :010 and for a portion of 2011, iccording to industry experts The Society of Motor Manufacurers and Traders (SMMT's) atest CV registration figures for uly showed truck sales (above six onnes CiVW) increased 9.1% :ompared with the same month in '.009. while van sales improved by ust over 25% year-on-year.

Volvo Trucks UK MD Goran *berg says: "We expect to see an ncrease in registrations during the iecond half of the year, compared Nith the first half, as the UK mar(et slowly catches up with the rest pf Europe.

-For 2011. we are forecasting a small increase over 2010 as we expect more smalland medium-sized companies to emerge from the recession with the attendant requirements to upgrade their fleets.

Sue Robinson, Retail Motor Industry Federation director.

says: "It is understandable that customers are hesitant about spending their cash or taking on a

vehicle loan; customers want I the confidence to see the future business that will come their way before making large commitments."

Nyberg adds: "Unless the goy ernment acts to offer an incentiā–  for the early adoption of Euro-o. we expect to see a late increase iii orders for Euro-5 and Euro-:-) EEV vehicles during 2011.

"In addition, fragile business confidence means UK plc is not totally out of recession yet and a full recovery could still be a long way off.

-Add to this the uncertainties over fuel costs, access to hank loans and the distinct possibility of some older drivers leaving the industry in the wake of Driver CPC training requirements. and it all makes forecasting the next 18 months very challenging. As such, in hoping for the best, we are also prepared for the worst."
