Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Congestion is the bane of the road transport industry. We asked the FTA to help keep you off the road to nowhere.

Words: Justin ,tantoni Maicolm bingham We're halfway through the summer and undoubtedly you and your vehicles have encountered unexpected traffic congestion here. there and everywhere. In an effort to highlight the congestion blackspots. CM has asked the Freight Transport Association (PTA) to detail the events most likely to affect freight movements in the coining months.

Malcolm Bingham, 1-TA head of road network management policy, says: "Bank holidays, the growth in domestic holidays, and massive music and sporting events can take their toll on the logistics sector's ability to keep the wheels of Britain's industry turning."

Predicting the crush

He adds: "While you need a crystal ball to foresee with any degree of certainty serious snarl-ups on our strategic roads network months in advance, it is possible to flag up potential hotspots that CV operators might need to consider before planning their routes.

"Serious traffic jams are notoriously difficult to predict

and usually occur due to completely unforeseen incidents, for example. drivers not paying attention to congested traffic up ahead and causing a secondary, more serious jam by piling into the hack of them.

Diva disruption

The events themselves are also subject to alteration. making it harder for the authorities to make provision. Earlier this year at the NEC, the Whitney Houston concert was cut short, so people were pouring onto the road network an hour sooner than expected. It seem; you can't legislate for divas. This is why reliable. up-to-the-minute traffic information is such a valuable commodity.•
