Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Tachograph

FOLLOWING YOUR article on driver agencies (CM 22 July) I feel compelled to write to see if this is a nationwide issue or just a local problem.

I am new to the industry, having spent 12 years in retail, and find it ridiculous to believe the situation we find ourselves in with driver agencies being able to dictate to us and yet having no responsibility for their actions.

Agencies are sending so-called drivers to us who cannot use tachographs, take the longest routes to and from destinations, thus using more fuel, and cause what can only be described as wilful damage to vehicles while out on the road. On top of all this trying to get tachographs back off the agencies for your records is a near impossibility. And yet who is penalised for not having a tachograph for the day in question when the agency driver had your vehicle? Yes, you, the haulier.

Surely these agencies should be better regulated. After all we can't do a thing without it having to be regulated. Then I read in CM some luagencies saying that they are going to charge 20% more for drivers when the WTD comes into force.

So come on RI IA and FTA,let's get something sorted before Mr Blair and his cronies get what they want by driving British hauliers off the road or penalising them further for actions that are beyond our control.
