-ppoAD hauliers were last week criticized by ' Mr. George Brown, the Economics Minister, for refusing to co-operate with the Prices and Incomes Board.
Speaking during the detailed examination of the Prices and Incomes Bill, Mr. Brown recalled the "glaring example" of the road haulage industry's refusal to provide evidence.
Out of 330 firms asked to co-operate only 38 offered anything like a sufficiently detailed answer, said Mr. Brown.
There could be a situation where the whole work of the Board could be totally frustrated by a concerted and organized refusal to provide the evidence the Board needed to do its work, said the Minister, who was explaining why the Board needed powers to get the information it wanted.
He was not saying that he had any evidence to show the hauliers' action was concerted or organized, went on Mr. Brown, but it was a glaring example of what could happen if these powers were not provided for the Board to use.
