Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT IS WITH HORROR that! have just read the article concerning the sale of the Night Owl Truckstop at Alconbury (CM 29 March). It also states that Bi, B2 and 1138 uses would be permitted for the land, which covers offices, industrial processes and storage and distribution uses. CM states that it has been told there arc plans to use the land for warehousing.

The Professional Drivers Association (PDA) protests officially, and most strongly, that this should not be allowed. " r • ro= FAI.A.M.h., Ayr, p es, IN There is already a dreadful shortage of secure overnight parking for LGV drivers (and the goods they carry) in Cambridgeshire. Not only that, there is a severe shortage of any sort of parking other than lay-bys.

How can closing a secure lorry park, which safely houses 240 lorries a night. and replacing it with warehousing that will attract even more lorries looking for secure parking and overnight facilities be considered?

The PDA feels it is the duty of the Freight Quality Partnership for Cambridgeshire, the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association, Cambridgeshire County Council, and all haulage-related bodies and press to oppose anything that might result in the loss of this much needed, and well used, facility
