Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE HIGHWAYS Agency (HA) is seeking feedback from road users after releasing its plans to widen the M1 between Luton and Bedford.

Under the £601m scheme a 15-mile stretch between J10 and J13 will be widened to four lanes in both directions, Improvements to i11, 12 and 13 will also be made and signalling systems will be installed to control traffic speed.

A climbing lane for heavy, slow-moving vehicles between J11 and 10 in a southerly direction has also been included in the plans.

The HA will be accepting comments on the proposals until 28 June. It might decide to hold a public inquiry after this date, depending on the number of objections.

Send your comments to www.m1wideningJ10-13@ highways.gsi.gov,uk • About 800,000 tonnes of waste material from the china clay industry is to be used to build a dual carriageway and improve junctions on the A30 in Devon and Cornwall.

About 90% of the construction material for the stretch of road between Bodmin and Indian Queens will be waste generated by china clay plants in St Austell.
