Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE WEST SUSSEX town of Petworth is hoping to introduce barriers preventing vehicles wider than 2m entering its narrow streets.

A signed route directs LGVs away from the town centre, but Tex Pemberton, the county councillor responsible for highways and transport in West Sussex, says drivers are ignoring them because sat-nay directs them through Petworth.

This means lorries frequently get jammed in the lanes -and when I say jammed I mean they physically become stuck and cause damage to buildings."

Pemberton says the majority of the drivers who go through the town rather than using the advisory route are foreign, and when asked why they ignored the signs say they were following sat-nay.

The local authority is to start a consultation process for the plan to install bollards preventing vehicles wider than 2m from entering the town centre. The emergency services and possibly those requiring access for local deliveries would be given a remote control to depress the bollards and allow access.

Pemberton hopes the system will be in place by October.
