• Social inquiry reports have been sought by Rugby magistrates for a man who used his dead father's HGV driving licence to obtain a job when he was not qualified.
Kenneth Ward, of Rugby, admitted two offences of making a false instrument with the intention of inducing others to accept it as genuine, two of driving a Lorry without an HGV driving licence and two of using a vehicle without insurance.
Barbara Stubbs, prosecuting for the West Midlands Traffic Area, said that Ward was engaged last July as a Class One driver by Rugby Freight Services.
He showed a director and the general manager an ordinary driving licence and an HGV driving licence.
In September, a check on drivers' documentation showed that Ward's licence was not signed.
Only later, under a threat of dismissal, did Ward produce a photostat copy of a signed licence. A traffic examiner was asked to look at Ward's licences, and when the file was checked in the Traffic Area office, it was seen that the HGV licence had been issued to Ward's late father. The signatures on the application forms were different.
The magistrates adjourned sentence until May 2 for social inquiry reports to be prepared.
