D. Needhi to add six vehicles and seve trailers to the nine vehicles and 19 trailers on its licenct and to move its operating centre to the town's Albert Hill Industrial Estate. The application was opposed by Darlington Borough Council.
Company managing direct Paul Tait admitted it had already moved into its new premises without authority, but said the landlord of its previous premises, the Nont Eastern Co-operative Societ had made life extremely difficult.
His prime concern had be to continue the business. lit lodged a variation application as soon as he realised it wai necessary.
Darlington environmental health officer Keith Atkins, said that articulated outfits using the approach road to ti premises cause severe disturbance and annoyance n local residents.
el'he number, size and weight of the vehicles using the premises would cause increased wear and damage the road.
The headmistress of a nearby primary school had complained about the disturbance and annoyance tt classroom activities caused b the passage of heavy vehicle: but he agreed that engineerir works and foundries on the estate have large drop hammers that crash down at regular intervals.
The council had not investigated the noise emanating from the company premises.
Whalley rejected the council's objection and said tt the nearest residential property was 400m from the premises.
