Rotherham Corpdration's transport committee has appointed Mr. Norman Rylance, of Wigan Transport Department, as traffic superintendent.

Mr. J. Davenport who, for many years,: was manager of the Farington steel works of. Leyland Motors, Ltd., has been appointed manager of thefl steel foundry of Hopkinson, Ltd., of Huddersfield.

The Council of the Institute of Transport announces that Sir Cyril Hurcomh, K.B.E., C.B., the secretary of the Ministry of Transport, has accepted its invitation to become President of the Institute for the year commencing October 1, 1935.

Mr. H. M. Lomax, who for over 25 years was with the Westcliff Motor Services, Ltd., and for the'past eight years was secretary, has been appointed a director of Multiways, Ltd., the well-known coach-operating concern of Southend-on-Sea.

Mr. J. McDonough has retired from the position of chief inspector of the transport department of Wolverhampton Corporation after 48 years' service with the corporation transport department and previously with the tramways company. He was the recipient of a mahogany bureau presented by the staff.

The new chairman of the Leeds and District Section of the Institute of Transport will be Mr. D. Gracie, M.B.E., M.Inst.T., of Leeds, district superintendent of the London and North Eastern Railway Co. (Southern Area), who, at the annual meeting of the section, last Friday, was elected to succeed Mr. C. R. Tattam, M,Inst.T., A.11.I.E.E., Bradford Corporation's transport manager, when Mr. Tattam completes two years of office as chairman, in September next.

Mr. E. Tyler was elected hon. secretary and Mr. C. E. Douthwaite, of Hull, was re-elected hon. treasurer, whilst Messrs. E.' B. Hutchinson (London), -W. Vane Morland (Leeds) and A. Brown (Leeds) were re-elected vicechairmen, with the addition of -Mr. Tattam, when he relinquishes the position of chairman.

Mr. A. A. L. Collis has just been appointed engineer in charge of transport for the Metropolitan Police, with headquarters at Scotland Yard. He gained his early experience, in the motor industry at the works of Clement Talbot, Ltd. •He commenced nearly seven years ago with the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., as technical assistant to Major Leese, and . after six months took charge of the tool room, inspection, machine shop, : chassis-testing, etc., at the Chiswick works. A year ago Mr. Collis was transferred to the technical department.

The good wishes of all his friends will accompany Mr. Alexander Craig, C.B.E., J.P., of the Maudslay Motor Co., Ltd., who, under medical advice, is to take six months' rest.

Mr. W. R. Shephard, formerly sales director of the Daimler Co., Ltd., and, more recently, managing director of T.S. Motors, Ltd., has been appointed to act as general manager in the meantime. He will be in touch with Mr. Craig, who will continue to assist the company with technical advice. A recent product is a Six-Four goods chassis, which, with either oil or petrol engine, driver's cab and platform body, comes within the 4-ton tax class and will carry 6 tons, and, later, a fourwheeled chassis to accommodate a 40seater, saloon body, which has been briefly described in this journal,
