Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

drivers should write on their tachograph charts the start and finish of daily and weekly rests. I believe that apart from filling in the centrefield a driver should not write anything on the face of the chart.

Can you tell me what the law is on this point?

A There is no requirement in the EC tachograph rules that a driver must enter the start and finish of a daily or weekly rest period on the tachograph record, apart from the mode switch being moved to record the rest if the record is not removed from the instrument.

Drivers should not make any manual entry on the face of the tachograph record apart from completing the centre-field entries.

However, there is no legal reason why your company cannot tell drivers to make the entries in question on the back of the record sheet.

That would be an instruction like any other in the manager/employee relationship.
