Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ford Motor Company says that new recruitment procedures for its Truck Fleet drivers, agreed at an Industrial Tribunal earlier this year, will take effect immediately.

Ford reached an agreement with the Transport & General Workers Union over new procedures in January. An independent assessor will accompany a Ford assessor for in-cab selection tests while Truck Fleet statistics on drivers' ethnic backgrounds will become more transparent.

"This should start happening from now," says a Ford spokesman. "We haven't had to recruit any new drivers recently but as soon as we do the new procedures will come in."

The row over allegedly racist employment policies let the the T&G and the United Road Transport Union at loggerheads over union membership.

I: The T&G has submitted a claim for a "substantial" pay rise, a twohour cut in the working week and an improved pension deal.

Ford will respond to the claim on 2 October.
