Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In haulage circles easily the most popula pastime has become "Knocking the Board" It may, therefore, come as something of shock to find the chairman of an associatiol of hauliers who, far from knocking the Roai Transport Industry Training Board. is loud ii the praises of the Midland Region officer of the Board.

Our venture began with three North Notting hamshire hauliers sitting down on a colt grim, gloomy afternoon to discuss with thei district training officer the possibilities of found ing a group training association, and it was no long before the enthusiasm of that traininl officer, Mr Neville Stafford, proved ir`ectious One early result was a visit to the Welling borough Training Group, where Mr Eale personally conducted the party round ani answered their sometimes naive questions Greatly impressed by what they had seen, the' formed a steering committee. and meetings c all the district hauliers followed. In each ani every case, some knowledgeable member c the Board attended and was only too happy provide advice and explanations.

Within 12 days of submitting the cot stitution and asking for formal registratio with the Board, the group received a letter c encouragement from the Midland Regio headquarters, with promise of an early vis from the regional manager himself. The ne) week Mr G. Asby travelled down from Celan( House to Worksop to inspect the propose site, and only three months from the birt of the whole idea a letter confirming officii recognition by the Board was received.

When advertisements in the local Press fc driving instructors produced no fewer tha 69 applications, a card to the RTITB brough quick response. The regional manager and th regional training manager both volunteere their expert services in vetting the applicz tions, and made the 90-mile journey to assi; the committee and the district training office' The Board's training officer later arranged crash course for the hgv test for the shoe listed five, and subsequently Motec responde to our urgent calls for a course for our tw chosen instructors.

The Board approved our plans for havin one instructor training twci trainees while th other was at Motec, and in the same week w received a £500 cheque from RTITB toward the development costs of the group. We als learned at that time that the previously intei viewed g.t.o. had been appointed and woul take up his duties within five weeks.

There followed the supply of furniturf visual aids and two training vehicles. By th time this is read, we shall have made cit. fully equipped start, on September 1, an in North Nottinghamshire there is a band c hauliers ready and willing to take up. th cudgels against any critics of the RTITB sta in the Midland Region.
