Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OVER a relatively shitirt period, the status of cleansing workers has Shown a definite rise, the improvement to some extent being allied to the increasing employment of advanced mechanical appliances. Cleansing 'drivers, faced with the constant need for negotiating thick

traffic and for coping with awkward situations, are almost invariably competent craftsmen—although perhaps in the past they have been apt to be too retiring. This year some of their representatives have been more in the public eye and one of those competing at the Lorry Driver of the Year final this month will be Don Rickman who, it may be recalled, won Class C at Fleetwood in the face of keen competition. Rickman has been a corporation cleansing department driver there for 15 years. The promoters of the York round of the Lorry Driver contest made a commendable move in putting up a special award for municipal drivers. Although this did not produce any class winners, and so no finalists, it should ensure increased support from the local authority men next year.
