r". 439, that can be flame-sprayed to produce very hard coatrigs on almost any metallic surface is now available from Wetco Ltd.

Dense wearand heat-resisting coatings are applied in thick.iessis of from 0-002 in. to 0.015 in. As the coating is selfionding it can be sprayed directly on to a clean surface. No ieat treatment is required after spraying so that a low-melting ioint base material can be coated with tungsten carbide. kluminium or even magnesium alloys can be hard-faced to esist extreme wear or abrasion.. A base material that would le metallurgically affected by heat can also be coated sailsactorily.

For short exposures these sprayed coatings will tolerate temwratures above their softening point (slightly above 1,000°C). :prayed coatings can be finished ground and lapped to give a urface finish of 2 to 4 micro inches.

Potential applications include parts for internal-combustion engines, gas turbines, heat-treat ing equipment, metal forming machines and hydraulic equipment.
