L'OLLOWING the major change made I last year in the scheme of examinations which it operates jointly with the Royal Society of Arts, the National Committee for Road Transport Education has announced a "heartening increase" in the number of candidates.

For the examinations held in April and May this year, there were 568 candidates —an increase of 72 on last year and the highest figure for -10 years. The former scheme was based on a three-year course of study, but the new scheme is designed to allow the student who wishes to do so to obtain a diploma in two years, with passes in five papers instead of seven.

The seven subjects for study are as follows: Road Transport Operation (passcriger), Papers I and II; Road Transport Operation (goods), Papers I and II; Road Transport Records; Road Transport Accounts; Communication and Report Writing; Elements of Road Transport Engineering; Economics Applied to Road Transport.

A new prize has been added. donated by the Worshipful Company of Carmen in memory of the late Mr. Herbert Crow, and will be awarded each year to the candidate who qualifies for the Award of the Diploma and obtains the highest aggregate of marks in five papers, including Road Transport Operation (goods), Papers I and H.
