ik REFRIGERATED meat body of srlk interesting design has recently been completed by Smith's Delivery Vehicles Ltd., Gateshead, and supplied through Russell's Garage, York, to the Ebor Meat Co. Ltd. The basis of the vehicle is a Commer 5-ton F/C 141-in, wheelbase chassis/cab, and the body is lined with expanded Polystyrene to a depth of 4 inches, and equipped with roof rails and Smith's Market Loader for easy handling of carcases. In addition, the body features a powerful, mains-operated refrigeration system, capable of chilling up to 10,000 lb. of lamb in about 12 hours. This enables the vehicle to be used as a stationary cooling plant during weekends, whilst operating as a normal, insulated meat transporter during the week (as shown below).

The refrigeration equipment employs a 3HP Hermetic Sterne Condensing Unit. operating in conjunction with a Lancastrian Cooler, and has been specially designed to operate at a high ail circulation rate and low temperature differentials.
