Bridge has brought immediate savings to users in Scotland of certain B.R.S. Parcels services. British Road Services have reduced their parcel rates for certain journeys in Scotland and passed to their customers the benefit of the savings in mileage, which in some cases exceeds 30 miles. The rates for conveyance between numerous towns and villages are affected on journeys to and from the eastern counties of Scotland.
The reduction in carriage charges varies according to the weight of the consignments. For example, the general tariff charge for movement of a 3-cwt. consignment between Dundee and Edinburgh shows a saving of 3s. 5d. The reduction in charges between all affected points averages about 2s. 6d. for 3 cwt.; 7d. for 56-1b. and 3d. for 28-lb. consignments.
