NEARLY a hundred people, concerned with traffic problems throughout Britain, will visit West Germany next month. The delegates will include members of county, city and town councils, Ministry of Transport officials, civil engineers, architects and technical journalists.

During an eight-day programme organized by the British Road Federation they will see urban motorway and traffic relief schemes in Hamburg, Berlin, Mannheim, Dusseldorf and Essen— including the 30-mile-long Ruhr Expressway.

TRAVELLERS OBJECT TO SMOKE

THE United Commercial Travellers' Association hold a meeting in their London office today of organizations interested in the abatement of oil-engine fumes and smoke. Since passing a resolution "deploring the increased contamination and pollution of the atmosphere by dark and black oil fumes" the association has received unsatisfactory replies to communications sent to the Ministries of Transport, Health and Works.

Today's meeting will be addressed by Mr. Gerald Nabarro, M.P., and Sir Walter Fergusson Hannay, the Harley Street specialist.

STAFF DEFY MANAGEMENT PLATFORM staff of Belfast nsport department who drive taxis in their spare time have decided to continue to do so in defiance of a recent warning from Mr. Joseph Mackie, the general manager.

The men, who have taken legal advice, consider that they are within their rights to use their spare time in whatever way they think fit.

NEW WELSH USERS' COMMITTEE TPON the expiry of the fourth term of office of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for Wales and Monmouthshire the Minister of Transport has appointed a new committee to operate until July 31. 1962. The chairman will be Mr. R. G. M. Street.
