TN the view of the West Midland I Licensing Authority, Rollon Transport, Burton-on-Trent. had no proper base nor have they had one for a very long time. They had been given one opportunity to put the matter right but had failed to do so and it was now necessary to ensure that they did so—by inflicting a penalty.
Mr. W. P. James said this at Birmingham on Tuesday when he suspended Ronan Transport's three B-licence vehicles from September 28 to October 31. He added that if the company abandoned the nonsense in which they had been indulging and obtained a proper base in Burton during this period, the suspension would cease on October 31. If it did not it would be extended or the licences revoked.
Mr. S. R. Clark, managing director, admitted that the vehicles went to Derby, outside the area, every night where the drivers lived, and coal was collected from the Chesterfield area in the mornings. The Burton office was now at a clearing house, Central Transport Enterprises, Ltd., of whom he was also a director. He admitted that no rent had been fixed for the office, his agent, a telephone girl, was not paid and day to day maintenance was carried out at the Cosy Cafe, Breadsall, Derby.
