A PLEA for Stirlingsh ire County Council to run school buses in the area instead of the bus companies was made last week by a county councillor. He said that recent overtime bans had hit school children particularly hard. The Councillor suggested that the local authority should provide the buses.

The county director of education, Mr James Meldrum, said: "Our running costs at the moment keeping these buses on contract is just over £250,000 a year. If we were to provide our own service our costs would be double or treble that figure.
