A MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT ri inquiry in Durham last week was told that the decision by the Northern Traffic Commissioners in granting Wilkinson Motor Services Ltd., of Sedgefield, an extension of the Stockton to Spennymoor route to Willington via Binchester was not what the public wanted.

Mr. J. L. R. Croft, appearing for J. Jewitt and Son Ltd., of Spennymoor, said that the Commissioners had chosen the worse of two routes.

He said that the weight of evidence at the public sitting had been overwhelmingly in favour of the extension to Willington via Page Bank, which Jewitt wished to operate.

Jewitt was appealing against the granting of the extension to Wilkinson and also the refusal to grant its application to extend the existing Spennymoor to Page Bank route to Willington. Shaw Bros., of Spennymoor, also appealed against the refusal of their application to extend their route to Willington.

Mr. T. H. Campb11 Wardlaw, for Wilkinson, said that the Commissioners were well founded in granting Wilkinson's application. They had considered the area as a whole and recognized that there was a need for a direct service to Willington from Spennymoor,
