BECAUSE of difficulties of operating in Derry City a dozen new buses have been built by the Ulster Transport Authority to serve the area. Severe wear and tear, resulting chiefly from the hilly nature of the routes in the Londonderry urban district, is stated to have influenced the U.T.A. to provide a specially designed fleet to suit local needs. The first 12 buses will be part of a total fleet of 33. They incorporate A.E.C.

Reliance chassis and metal-framed bodies measuring 30 ft. by 8 ft. overall which were built in the Authority's own works. Seating is provided for 43 passengers. Features include an electrically operated front entrance controlled by the driver, power-assisted steering and dual valve safety air brakes. Exterior finish is in the Authority's standard livery of pale green and blue-green.
