PAA COMMISSION to inquire into the future transport needs of the Clyde Valley area is the likely outcome of a meeting in Glasgow last week attended by representatives of Glasgow Corporation, the Ministry of Transport and the Scottish Development Dept.
Lord Provost, Mr. Peter Meldrum, who presided, said that as a first step in their objective to achieve a co-ordinated passenger transport system they proposed to carry out a transportation study throughout the region.
A report on how best this study could be undertaken is to be prepared for a meeting to be held shortly of the Corporation's special committee on public transport facilities.
Mr. Meldrum said they wanted to ensure that public transport and road communications were adequate to meet the traffic expected. They would examine the possibility of extending the rail electrification system to such growth areas as Bathgate and the new town of Livingston.
