Stan Robinson turns out the Lights to improve efficiency

STAN ROBINSON is looking to improve its green credentials after it introduced energy efficiencies that it says will save £140,000 over the next five years at its depot in Seighford, Staffordshire.

The haulier, which is currently celebrating its 40th year in business, has used environmental expert 3e (Consultancy) to design and install an intelligent lighting system that uses motion sensors to automatically turn lights off if no-one is working in a certain area.

Stan Robinson says the system, which will save 685 tonnes of carbon over the five-year period, is particularly effective because the depot works overnight five days of the week.

Steve Cope, Stan Robinson's transport director, says: "3e has devised a system that meets our company's needs and that will save money, improve our efficiency, provide a better lighting system for our employees to work in and improve our green credentials."

Stan Robinson received a three-year, interest-free loan from the Carbon Trust to help finance the project.
