Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE ROAD HAULAGE Association has teamed up with the JobCentre Plus to launch a truck driver training programme in Leeds.

Under the initiative RHA members ViamasterTransport;Bedfords Transport: Macfarlane Transport and Leeds Waste Management have all taken on trainees.

RHA northern regional director Geoff Dunning explains: "It's the same old story — employers want drivers with experience but new drivers can't get experience to be able to get a job in the first place.

"Our training programme seeks to address this. Trainees begin by learning about drivers' hours, health and safety, loading and unloading and tachographs.

"Then they go out on the road with an experienced driver from the company so that so they can see what the job is all about on a daily basis. They are then able to go on and take their category C licence. The last 10 people we trained are now all employed as truck drivers "It may not solve the problem of the hundreds of thousands of drivers that we need to end the driver shortage," he adds, "but if we can we will have several hundred more get four programmes a year rundrivers in the region — and every fling in the North of England then little bit helps.
