• The Attorney General, Lord Williams of Mostyn, will not refer the manslaughter sentences imposed on two directors of Roy Bowles Transport to the Appeals Court.
Last December Stephen Bowles and his sister Julie Bowles were convicted after driver Andrew Cox fell asleep while driving on the M25. His truck was subsequently involved in a seven-vehicle pileup in which two men died,
Thurrock MP Andrew Mackiniay had questioned whether their suspended sentences were too lenient after they failed to pi-event Cox driver from working dangerously excessive hours, leading to the accident in 1997.
