• Lorry drivers could be enticed to inform on drugs racketeers if a hotline under consideration by North-East police goes ahead.
The freephone line, operated on an anonymous basis, would be operated by the crime squad covering the counties in the east of England from Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire up to the Scottish border.
The launch of the service could occur in tandem with a campaign to tell lorry drivers about the drugs hotline through leaflets at ports.
