• Copies of revised speed limit regulations which came into effect on May 1 are now available from HMSO. The Motor Vehicles (Variation of Speed Limits) Regulations 1973, which permits increased speeds for light vehicles towing single trailers and for certain light passenger vehicles is "SI No. 747:1973 and costs 8p. The Motor Vehicles (Speed Limits on Motorways) Regulations 1973, which alters speed limits from 41) to 50 mph for certain vehicles drawing trailers on motorways, is SI No. 748:1973 and costs 3p.
Where the new 50 mph limit applies under the revised regulations, vehicles and trailers involved are required to display the appropriate unladen weights in a specified manner. The requirements are set out in the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) Regulations 1973 which came into effect on May 9 and costs 3p from HMSO.
