rrHE C-licence position was discussed 1 at last week's meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party, "The Commercial Motor" understands. The Prime Minister was present, as was Mr. A. Barnes. Minister of Transport, and Lord Lucas, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry.

According to report, a majority of those who attended the meeting was in favour of an inquiry into the operation of C-licence vehicles and their effect on the State transport undertaking. Mr. C. C. Poole pressed for an immediate investigation, but Mr. Barites is said to have refrained from reaching a decision.

At the recent annual dinner of the Traders' Road Transport Association, Lord Lucas said that if the individual trader found that by running his own transport he could keep down costs, it was his right and duty to do so, and any other form of transport should compete with it.

Commenting on the meeting, Mr. F. D. Fitzgerald, secretary of the T.R.T.A., said that the support of Lord Lucas in maintaining the freedom of C-licence operation was assured, as his statement at the dinner confirmed.
