Which Type of Final Drive?

[29711 (Haymarket).—The claims of the various forms of final transmission for heavy commercial vehicles are so various, and withal so dependent onspecial conditions of working, that it is impossible to reply briefly to your query on that subject. We do not recollect any articles published giving comparative performances, which would be of use to you at this juncture. You may, however, take it from us—and our opinion is based both on the results of commercial service in this country and also on first-hand experience of performances under war conditions on the various fronts—that there is little to choose between any of the final drives as regards their actual performance. Probably you understand, as well as we do, the reasons why disinterested information is not supplied by manufacturers.
